WHY I WRITE THESE BOOKS
The science is only the beginning
Technology becomes dangerous long before it looks like a weapon. Usually, it begins with a promise: better health, safer systems, faster decisions. I’m interested in the moment that promise becomes authority—and in the people expected to live with the consequences.
My background in criminal justice taught me to look at evidence, institutions, and the gap between rules and accountability. Two decades in corporate life showed me how incentives, ambition, and ordinary decisions can harden into systems no one person fully controls.
That tension drives The Helix Chronicles. The science matters, but the stakes are human: Who gets protected? Who gets overlooked? What does it take to challenge a system that insists it is working exactly as intended?

Some stories find you
In my twenties, I donated my eggs through a program that required anonymity. I was told nothing about the outcome. I did not know whether the eggs were used or whether a child was born, and I accepted that I would never know.
More than two decades later, a DNA match connected me with a daughter I never knew existed. What began with emails became a relationship both of us embraced without hesitation. We made room for one another, kept showing up, and chose to build a family together.
The experience also drew me into advocacy for egg donors and donor-conceived people. My daughter and I are now writing a memoir about what happened after DNA found us.

I live near Washington, D.C., with my husband and an opinionated rescue dog. When I’m not writing, I’m usually spending time with family, following a research rabbit hole farther than intended, or opening one more browser tab because one question led to twelve more.
